3 SELF MARKETING MISTAKES & HOW TO CORRECT THEM!

Today we live in a society that is all about self-marketing. Whether you are a musician/artist/actor/model or work in a corporate environment, now more than ever is the time to learn about how to take control of your marketing skills and get people and companies to notice you! Below are three key starting points on what most people do wrong when it comes to marketing/branding, and how to change those behaviors.

#3
LACK OF COMMUNICATION
WITH YOUR AUDIENCE!
If you have not noticed, in today's market, communication is completely different. Years ago, everyone had to pick up the phone in order to get any project they worked on noticed. However, all that has changed. With many revolutions in social media such as Facebook, Google Plus, Linked In and much more, people are able to sign up for one of these free networking tools and meet their potential customers/clients. This is ideal for those who are trying to grow their target customer population or increase general awareness about their product or service. It is strongly encouraged that regardless of what field you are in, to always use social networking strategically. Note that being signed up for a social networking site is generally not enough. An individual has to consistently engage their audience and socialize with others to bring their goals to fruition. Not communicating with others via social networking or in person can be detrimental to anyone's career.

#2.
TOO MUCH COMMUNICATION
 WITH YOUR AUDIENCE!

Many may look at this and wonder why it is the opposite of what was talked about above. There is a reason for this. Whatever you are doing online, always remember internet safety and keep your business separate from your personal life. It is never a wonderful idea to mix the two. For example, your "business" ventures should not include the following:
  • Revealing intimate details of your current relationship
  • Openly discussing controversial topics, i.e. religion and politics
  • Telling everyone about your child's life  (safety alert!!)
  • Having inappropriate/sexual conversations with someone online
  • Discussing or posting anything that would negatively impact your business strategy
BOTTOM LINE: Be nice and build relationships with potential customers, but keep private information private.

#1.
BEING TOO QUICK TO GET OFFENDED!
You will never grow as a person if you are closed off to any constructive feedback. There are always hateful and spiteful people who will be bent on negatively impacting your potential for success.  However, you must build yourself a circle of trusted people with whom you can rely upon for the honest truth for your well-being. Utilize these people and vice-versa. It is impossible for one individual to fully realize their potential, unless he or she is open to honest feedback. Learning not only helps your business grow, but it also adds to your self-esteem and confidence.

"But I say unto you, That ye resist not evil: whosoever shall smite thee on thy right cheek, turn to him the other also. -Matthew 5:39)."
