Dry skin is a condition that happens upon which the outer layer of the skin runs out of water. Dead skin cells resurface when this occurs. Dry skin can be described as being itchy, irritated, scaly or flaky. It is one of the most common skin conditions. It can easily be the cause of an under active thyroid or other existing medical conditions. There are several things an individual can do if he or she is suffering from dry skin. This may include not using harsh soaps, detergents or perfumes. Also using items that include salicylic acide solutio is not recommended. The cause of dry skin varies. It may be caused from hot showers, moisture rubbing soaps, aging or health problems.  Always try to refrain from scratching your skin, because it can lead to irritation of the skin. Generally, these issues can be solved by following tips above. However, if dryness continues to persist to the point that rashes occur and it disrupts sleep, your physician should be contacted immediately.
