Healthy Weight Week! Are you obese, overweight, or normal?

Healthy Weight Week is January 20th-26th! Regardless of where you live in the world, maintaining a healthy weight is extraordinarily important to your health and happiness. Obesity is a global-wide problem. According to the World Health Organization, in 2005, approximately 1.6 billion adults over the age of 15 were overweight and at least 400 million adults were obese. Also, at least 20 million children were considered overweight. If this trend continues it is estimated that 2.3 billion adults will be overweight and 700 million will be obese. Many people are confused about the difference between being overweight and being obese. Both are dangerous to the body (especially being morbidly obese) but each  are determined by using a Body Mass Index (BMI) calculator. BMI is weight to height ratio and is calculated by dividing a person's weight in kilograms by the square of one's height in meters. Below is an adult BMI calculator to help you determine whether or not your weight is in a healthy range. Our bodies are all different, so remember that this is a range and  it should not be the final determination of how healthy you are. Always visit your doctor on a scheduled basis to ensure that you are healthy. Each of us have different bone structures that may also influence whether or not a person is at a "healthy" weight. Normal weight is a BMI between 18.5-24.9, Overweight is 25-29.9, Obesity is 30 or greater and a person is considered underweight if they have a BMI under 18.5.

For children and adults, view the BMI calculator and chart.
