HOUSE OF THE WEEK! "A Christmas Story"

The Christmas story house is a 19th century Victorian Style home that was used in 1983 for the popular movie "A Christmas Story." The actual outside of the home was located in Cleveland Ohio's (West side) Tremont neighborhood. Despite the fact that there were no Higbee's stores in Shepherd's hometown, Cleveland was the location used for the scenes involving Higbee's department store.  Many portions of the inside of the house were actually recorded in various areas which include, the Victoria School in St. Catharines, Ontario, Canada and the Christmas Tree purchasing scene that was filmed in Toronto, Canada. The movie, based on a story by Jean Shepherd,  tells the story of a young boy by the name of Ralph, who is determined to convince everyone around him that a Red Rider BB Gun is the perfect gift for Christmas. While the plot seems simple, this movie quickly grew to be one of the most popular Christmas movies of all time. In 2004, the home in Cleveland was purchased and a private developer restored and renovated the home to look exactly like the movie both inside and out. Now it stands as a popular museum for people from all over the country to tour.
