SKIN CARE: SECTION TWO: "THE SMOKER"
BAD HABITS THAT MAKEYOU LOOK OLDER
SECTION TWO
"THESMOKER"
Smoking is a habit that can destroy a person from the inside out. Cigarettes contain chemicals such as benzene, nitrosamines and formaldehyde, that can cause cancer and damage to our beautiful smile. It can also lead to lung problems, poor circulation, infections and complications with diabetes, premature aging, and cancer.
Tobacco is one of the leading causes of death. Millions die every year from smoking related problems. It is estimated that by the year 2030, smoking will contribute worldwide to more than 8 million deaths. Although there are people who may not develop "lung" cancer, on averaged their life expectancy is shortened by 14 years due to other various complications that result from smoking. People are under the false impression that if someone does not die from a specific type of cancer, then cigarettes did not shorten their life. This information is false, and many use this excuse to sooth their conscience about a habit they "secretly" understand can be detrimental to their health AND to others.
TYPE OF CIGARETTE EXPOSURE:
First hand: When a person is the individual inhaling the cigarette smoke directly.
Second hand: Occurs when you are around a person who is smoking.
Third hand: The residue that smoking leaves behind, such as on furniture, cars, toys, etc.
Mild Smokers: Smokes less than 6 packs/year. Moderate Smokers: Smokes between 11-19 cigarettes a day.
Heavy Smokers: Smokes more than 20 cigarettes daily.
Regardless of which category a person falls under, cigarettes can have a huge affect on health and appearance. In fact, the person who is surrounded by a smoker may be in more harm than the individual who is smoking. It has been estimated that 85% of all cigarette smoke is inhaled by outsiders. Secondhand smoke has over 4000 chemicals and more than 40 cancer causing agents and 200 known poisons. According to the American Lung Association, secondhand smoke causes approximately 3,400 deaths from lung cancer and 22,700 to 69,600 deaths from heart disease each year.
Historically, smokers often start at an early age. Cigarette companies filled billboard signs with pictures of beautiful young people. Many believe that this type of advertisement led young children to believe that they would be more popular and beautiful if they smoked. During the 1950's smoking was "in style." It was not thought to be a hazardous problem. As recent as the 90's smoking was advertised in every way possible. There was a time when smoking was allowed in all restaurants, planes, movie theaters and various places. However, all of that quickly came to a hault when smoking was discovered to be extraordinarily harmful to those who come in contact. Today, companies are weeding out non-smokers for employment, simply because smokers have a high risks associated with health costs.
BEAUTY TIP! Nothing says "young" like a healthy smile and beautiful skin. Smoking destroys this reality. Our body needs to regenerate on a regular basis. Smoking will create lower circulation, resulting in less flow of oxygen and nutrients that are dispersed throughout our body. Without our body being able to replenish, our skin suffers the consequences (ie premature wrinkles, crowsfeet, unwanted lines, etc.).
It is up to the individual who is smoking whether or not they want to attempt to quit. Cigarette smokers are judged very harsh these days, but an addiction is an addiction. Smoking a cigarette is hazardous to your health, but, this does not make you an person evil.
If you choose to not quit, remember that your loved ones will suffer. Regardless of whether or not you smoke inside your home or out, your family members and loved ones can be affected by this addiction that will lead to premature death.
SIDE NOTE: If you smoke for 20 years and suddenly stop, the damages are already done. Your body will never return to brand new, BUT, this is not an indication that a person should not quit. Continuing to smoke will increase the damage that has alreaady been done. ALSO, MARIJUANA SHOULD NOT BE USED TO SUBSTITUTE YOUR SMOKING HABITS! MARIJUANA IS DANGEROUS....
WATCH!!!
Parents who expose their children to smoking will often create smokers. It does not matter how much you teach a child NOT to do something. Parents are highly influential in a child's life. Children often do not do what they are told, they usually do what they see. If mommy and daddy are smoking...why can't they?
A child's biggest hero is YOU...
TIPS ON HOW TO QUIT!
ABC'S
A:Acknowledge that you have an addiction. You will never be able to fix a problem that you can not first notice as a problem. If you decide you do not have a problem, I encourage you to take the challenge of not smoking for a few days. Many people who are addicted, cannot quit, because they do not understand their is a problem.
B.Believe in yourself. Surround yourself with supportive people and realize that you may have setbacks in life. Never use issues or setbacks as an excuse to start smoking again.
C.Care about quitting for the sake of others. Every time you feel the urgency to smoke a cigarette...picture the following:
"No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it
