Is it possible to achieve love online?

Well, all things are possible. Today, many people get married and develop strong friendships through their internet connections. But, like everything else, there are guidelines or things you should be aware of before you take the leap of dating online.

What is online dating?
Definition provided by:
Online dating services allow singles to meet and communicate over the Internet, in order to facilitate a romantic connection. Typically, in order to use an online dating service, you start by creating a profile with basic information about yourself such as gender, age, location, and interests, and at least one photo.

· It is convenient!
o You can online date at your desk, on your couch in the living room…pretty much wherever you have internet connection.
· You can choose to be yourself!
o This type of dating takes off the pressure of trying to “look” perfect. The other person actually has the opportunity to see you for who you are on the inside first (unless you use video chat, but even that is not as uncomfortable as the “first date”).
· It can be more intimate!
o Communication through writing can be one of the highest forms of intimacy. Some people are more honest and open when they can write something as opposed to saying it.
· Very straight forward!

o You both know you are dating online. Most people are confused in general about whether or not they are in a relationship with someone. If you click on eharmony, then it should be pretty obvious that you are both trying to find a date.
· Immediately find someone who has similar interest!
o Set up your profile the way you want it and magically you can find someone who loves the same things you do. Most people have a hard time finding that without using the internet.
· Lower rejection risk!
o  Fellas, asking a lady out through the computer is a lot easier than asking face to face. Somehow, the rejection is not as harsh. Generally you send a girl an email or express a level of interest. If she doesn’t respond, you can always tell yourself she never received your information

Yes, there are plenty of companies that are obviously advertising falling in “love.” It is human nature for us to want to feel loved and valued by someone else. It is important to understand that these dating sites are advertising, but, so are the people that you are looking at.

One of the primary things people forget is that online dating is a form of personal advertisement. People are advertising themselves to entice what they want. This is not necessarily wrong, but some individuals can take advertisement to an unhealthy and dishonest level. When you log on to these websites, you expect a person to be honest and truthful about their lives. After all, you are paying some sort of price for it. Sometimes you do not get what you pay for…

· Pictures
o  Most people select the ONE best picture they have.
o Sometimes the photos may not be their most recent photo. It could be a picture from 1976. Photoshop is a powerful tool…
o  It may not be “their” personal picture. Who you see, may not be who you get.
·  Age
o There are generally two types of age categories in online dating. Those who lie about their age to be older, and those who are in complete denial about their age.
o  Not many people are honest about their age in the world of online dating. Depending on who is sitting behind their computer, their goal is to be enticing. Older people may not believe that they can captivate someone in their own age group or “younger” if they give the appropriate age. Younger girls (or boys) are quick to add a few years so they can date an older person. The sad reality is that there are a lot of pedophiles  who do not care if a girl or guy is under age.

Advantages and limitations for online dating 50+
·  Financial Status
This is an area that is very widely abused. Most people OVER exaggerate their paychecks. This is especially common for men, because they have the social pressures of being able to “have enough.” If a woman meets them and realizes they are flat broke, their dating opportunities will decrease significantly. The woman that you choose may not be a gold digger, but it is pretty hard to desire a person who has a significant amount of financial debt.
o  Some men use this money tactic to lure young innocent girls.
· Criminal activities
o A lot of people do not air their dirty laundry. It is necessary to understand that there are a lot of criminals, including (especially) people who have never served jail time. Just because a person does not have a prison record, does not mean they have no record of criminal activity.
· Family values/Marital status
o  Some people say they have the closest family. It is really hard to tell when you are “dating” online.
o  There are also a lot of people who are already in a relationship and are simply seeking extramarital affairs or sex. And if you happen to be a person who is currently "involved" with a married person (and you know it), I would bet the ranch, YOU ARE NOT THE ONLY ONE THEY ARE CHEATING WITH.
· Location
o They can be anywhere in the world, how would you know? And if they are across the world and you are aware of it, why would you want to date someone who is across the country?? I thought the sole purpose of you online dating is for companionship.
o  It is hard to have companionship with someone who lives in another country.
· They can be the person you want them to be….
o You signed up and probably listed your likes and dislikes. How easy do you think it would be for someone to log onto their computer, stare at what they believe you are looking for and temporarily become that “dream” man or woman you are looking for….?
So the question still remains. Should you try to date online or not. If you are familiar with anything I have read then you already know, I never really answer questions. I just provide the information  and the rest is up to you.

A decision that is right for one person may be wrong for you, vice verse.

·   Ask yourself, why you are using an online dating service and what are you trying to achieve. Many people who date online have a high tendency to have low-self esteem. They do not believe that they are able to capture a person immediately in person and they do not want to be alone. The fastest way to solve that problem is to date online. If this is the reason why you are using an online dating service, then you may want to “think again.” Insecurities will eventually show to “anyone” you choose to date, online or off. Love yourself first.

You are altogether beautiful,
my love; there is no flaw in you
  • Be patient, Not desperate. Becoming desperate can lead a person into relationships that are dangerous! There is a time and place for everything. Getting in a relationship should NEVER be treated like a shopping list. Spend a little more time being "picky" about who you may potentially want to spend the rest of your life with.
But they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength;
they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary;
they shall walk and not faint.
  • Never meet anyone in a private area. Choose areas where there is a good amount of people present.
·  Be cautious of  anyone who is constantly talking about their income status. This is generally a huge red flag. People talk about things they want to be or wish to have. A financially stable person does not have to mention how much money he (or she) is making every 5 seconds.
o Who are they trying to convince?
o Money should never come up on the same date, if a person is truly looking for love. Of course we should always desire to be with a hard worker, however, it is easy to become detoured by “wealth” if we choose not to first decide if there is an “initial connection.”

The best relationships just happen....

  • Stick to general topics on the first date, regardless of how well you "feel" you know them.
  • Make sure  the person you meet is actually the person on the website.
  • Stay true to yourself and be kind enough to let the other person know if you were born a Mark but now you are a Michelle. Starting off a relationship centered around lies is destined to "fail."

Online Dating Safety Tips!
Do not say the following on the FIRST DATE!
Attention ladies! This is why you are single!

· Do not have sex on the first date!
o This will eliminate the people who are in it for the “sexual” pleasure. Love is not sex and sex is NOT love!
o As always, if you are foolish enough to engage in sexual activity with someone you have only met for 5 minutes, be safe.
  • Do not get married on the first date...YES believe it or not I have to address this.
  • Never introduce them to your family or allow them inside of your home if you have never met them. If you are a parent, be aware that these websites amongst others are easy to access.
  • Teens, tweens, young adults and children, please report anyone who is trying to lure you online. Do not believe them if they tell you that they love you. These are dangerous people and you can quickly put yourself in danger. If you are looking for love, this is not the way to find it.

  • Remember…just because you have been writing and/or video chatting DOES NOT mean you know them completely. It is entirely different dating someone who you are actually in their physical presence then it is to be able to turn on and off switch. Eventually if this leads to marriage, you will not have that opportunity to mute your husband or wife.
  • Always let someone be aware of who you are speaking with. If you are too embarrassed to admit you are dating online then I will have to go back to my initial question…"

"Why are you dating online?”
