Many people are currently in relationships that should have ended a long time ago. The problem is, that most individuals are extremely comfortable in certain situations or they stay with a person with a false hope that they will change. Sometimes people wish there was a rule book on whether or not you should stay in your current relationship or leave. Below are a few simple tips that may help you decide if it is time to call it quits with the person you are dating. NOTE: This advice is geared mainly towards those who are dating. Breaking up is hard to do for anyone, however, a marriage requires an extreme amount of work and depending on the circumstances, most of the time it is best to work it out (cheaters and beaters are the exception to this rule).
Trust is the ability to believe in the things a person tells you. Trust should be the firm foundation for every relationship. If you cannot trust a person then your relationship is not moving forward, but backwards. Everyone lies, however, there are certain individuals who take this to an unhealthy level. If you find that you are constantly having to check up on your partner or everything that he or she says appears to be false, then this is a giant red flag. The only thing worse than dating a non trustworthy person is marrying them.
BOTTOM LINE: If there is no trust, there should be NO RELATIONSHIP!
Does your partner leave for hours or days at a time without letting you know where they are? Are they constantly making decisions for the both of you without asking how you feel about the decision? Do they constantly cheat on you? These are signs that your partner may not have respect for you. Respect is having the ability to be kind to another individual. A person who respects you will always think about what your feelings are towards issues and they will not run around and cheat on you. A person who is in this type of relationship should never feel bad or belittle themselves if the person they are with is disrespectful. This is often the plan from those who are exhibiting this behavior in order to control the person they are with. Once a person has made another individual feel lower than dirt, they have taken control of their victim. If you are the victim, GET OUT! If you are the person who is doing the victimizing, GET HELP! A person who has no respect for you generally will have a long road ahead of them before they are ready to be with anyone. If you are willing to stay in a relationship with a partner who does not respect you, this will only escalate the problems because the perpetrator will continue to act disrespectful towards you, simply because you provide no consequences. At this point, the person who is being disrespected and understands this, suddenly does not become the victim but an enabler.
BOTTOM LINE: Respect yourself enough to NEVER stay with someone who does not understand and value who you are.
As much as this one should be obvious to most people, sadly it is not. This is because the abuser usually has a strong grip on their victim mentally. They have usually put them down or isolate them to a point where they may not even know that they are being abused. To learn more about abuse, please view the articles below:
BOTTOM LINE: Abuse takes many forms, including verbal. NEVER STAY WITH AN ABUSIVE PERSON. They may promise you they will change, but most likely, they will not. Being in a destructive relationship will only ruin YOU!RELATED TOPICS:
